Wall 58: Atlas
Earlier I said all you have to do is ask if you want something. A prerequisite condition of that is knowing what you want. No one will tell you that critical piece of direction.
No. Wait.
Each and every one of us is constantly bombarded with heresy, with propaganda, with suggestions. Decisions are simpler when someone else makes them for you. Nuggets of wisdom everywhere!
Shoulder some responsibility. Everyone has needs, forget about them. Determine what you want, reach out, and take it today.
Wall 57: Strokes
Randy Pausch, the author of The Last Lecture, had a pretty good point somewhere in there. Actually he had a ton, but today’s will be: Sometimes if you want something, all you have to do is ask.
Applications of above advice:
- Need calculus help
- Hug deficiency
- Skirting prerequisite classes
yay! and go read that book, or at least A book.
Wall 56: Cohesion
Even when I know I should go against the current (and I do more often than not), sometimes it helps to just go with the flow. Stick together. Birds of a feather. Some such groupspeak.
Did you know young skunks are called kittens?

Wall 55: Minimal Suite
I’ve been meaning to give the fans more of what they want (Minimal G is hands down my most popular wall thus far – which I blame accidental SEO for). Here’s some more minimal wallpapers to chose from. Two are variants of Minimal G. One is a variant of Dominique I call Bevel. The other is never-before-seen!
Enjoy
Wall 53: Framework
I don’t think enough can be said for laying a proper foundation when you plan to build something worthwhile. I look around and see little evidence that this is a good idea.
Ha!
It is a good idea, but there are too many disreputable contractors. But what I’ve realized, my opinion O (loyal readers will remember), is that their willingness to cut corners only showcases my ability. Above all, get things done! http://www.rubyrailways.com/dhh-fuck-the-real-world/
It’s sunny, try to enjoy it behind or beyond glass.
Wall 52: Severance
Meg’s artist statement:
I want to create art that is entirely about what I want my process to be, my own choice of materials, my chosen size. I struggle with the parameters set by professors and academic institutions. I don’t feel that I’ve grown at all as I’ve progressed through my formal education. It’s almost like a slow, sad death of my creativity… I feel I need to start working out the bizarre thoughts inside of my head, or rather they need to come out in this way rather than in unexpected awkward spurts at unnecessary times like when I’m at work. There’s just too many rules to each project one is given that I don’t feel like I have the room I need to make something my own. I’m like a bratty child. Too many rules just make me want to have a tantrum (and nothing productive comes from that).
I love this woman
Wall 51: Persistence
[I first want to applaud Ben's villanelle from yesterday's post. I hope more of you write one. ]
I never knew what I was getting myself into with all of this. It has transcended hobby and chore alike now. It’s a need. Mike said this happened to him when he was doing 365daysatthelake.
What does this get me? I don’t know; all I know is that I must continue. My father tried reading between the lines, looking for fatigue. He won’t find any. Quite the contrary. Though I may ebb and flow in effort and exuberance, I still remain. This still remains. You all remain.
I’ve never felt that we are judged by what we do. That’s only looking at the finished product, not the cutting room floor or the status of the lease and balance of the coffers. Meg, I hope you read this. Meg, I hope you understand this. Meg, I hope they won’t bother you anymore.
Wall 50: Wobble
Let’s learn something new, shall we?
Writing a villanelle:
19 lines, iambic pentameter if you want to be fancy. rhyme scheme -
A1
B
A2A
B
A1A
B
A2A
B
A1A
B
A2
A
B
A1
A2
The numbered A’s must repeat as if they are a refrain. Duality of context helps change the meaning of each iteration as it is read. This is a very rigid poetic format, but what you will find is that it liberates you and your thoughts. Think of it as a master-piece shoehorn. If you complete one, I can say (broadly) that you’ve accomplished something of merit.
Hug someone today, they may need it.
Wall 49: Awry
When things go awry, you need to practice your “sticktoitiveness.” Wow do those play=by-play announcers help to expand my vocabulary!
Everyone has heard what can happen to the best-laid plans. Sometimes I feel that way. The trick, however, is to have more plans than potential pitfalls.
Have you thought about anything critically today? Mirror manufacturers have the most practice, am I am sure they have a lot to reflect on in China. Dreams and worries translate into hard work.
Happy Sunday.
