Wall 88: Signal vs Noise Suite

Today I am proud to show you my latest work.  Signal is a beauty.  I managed to render it during the school day yesterday, allowing for the usual night-time render time to complete….

Noise…. which is positively menacing as a background.  It loos like there is a whole in your screen, reaching deep, deep down into the depths of your soul.  I’m really happy with this suite.

I would like to define some terminology:

A comparison is when I give you two essentially identical wallpapers with differing background colors.

A suite is when I present multiple wallpapers of the same general theme, but of differing content.

I would also like to mention that I took a considerable (8 hours and change) gamble to produce Noise.  When rendering, all I saw was black.  I couldn’t separate it easily from the Apophysis background…. so it was a pleasant surprise to see it turn out alright in the negative version (that’s what I call the renders minus the backgrounds)

I do know that this name constuct is not unique.  Enjoy anyways.  And stay safe, everyone.  Also, don’t sneeze on me.

Wall 87: Smear

I’ve been busy lately, and hopefully it shows.  Expect a themed series soon.  Smear took over 8 hours last night to render.  One in the works right now will take 194 hours, lol.  That’s another reason why I cannot do anything else while rendering- it sucks up too much juice to be concurrent.  

Are you loyal viewers generally enjoying the larger resolutions?  Please let me know.

Wall 86: Pandemic!

I am probably not showing proper reverence to the severity of the situation.  People are dying right now from this Swiney flu.  But let’s run down a few observations taken from current events:

 Be glad you are in America.  Why?

1.

Mexican infection rates, and reports of a lack of medical supplies down south, convince me more than ever that it is a failed-state.  I’m sure strictly speaking that it isn’t one, but…

- It cannot provide basic emergency health-care for it citizens (people being turned away from small healthcare infrastructure)

- It cannot provide a specialized and adequate response to community-level outbreaks (not      enough masks, not enough medication)

- Let’s not even mention the drug war.

 2.

The U.S., the antithesis of #1, is in far better shape.  I also received a courtesy email from my university stating that two of its students were currently in Mexico, not near the epicenter, and were safe.  Upon return, they would not become a threat to the student populace.  The governement on every level seems poised to understand and contain local outbreaks.  

I am already seeing people whining that this is another false-alarm.  I’d rather be too careful and alive than carefree and dead.  Do people forget SARS?  Do you remember what it stood for?  I doubt it.  Avian Flu?  The 191x’s?  

Big Gov’t is good for some things.  I’m sick of people taking such a black and white partisan view of the world.  The beauty (Megan will agree with me that I know this one) is in the subtle shades of gray.

Wall 82: Tina

A couple of weeks ago a tractor-trailer jackknifed on I-43, closing down southbound lanes.  The police said the driver could have involved more vehicles, but didn’t.  The driver was rushed to the hospital with an apparent medical condition.

Last week, someone put flowers at that spot on the road. 

Today, what I can only assume to be the widow sat in the ditch, staring.

My 55 word story.  *shrugs*

Voices, and distraction.  Never pausing.  He would drown out the ambient noise with a new sort of listening.  The laughter faded away.  The singing.  The smiles.  He felt good for the first time.   Only a few more pesky noises.  A beating rythym.  It was all gone now.  How long would the battery last?

NOIR UPTON

Mommy wasz happy. She knew that the plumber would be able to fix this messy situation. He did so on a regular basis. He could unclog anything. Hell, his initials were BM. And then, there was the promise of Splash Bay Adventure.

“Splash Bay Adventure!” Upton said with throaty enthusiasm. He pressed himself up against the glass of the plumber’s car. The car sounded excited too, but then Upton realized it was rjun dowen and just angry.

“I promise I’ll take you there after we take care of this mess,” the plumber said.

“Yeah right. You’ll probably just karate chop me again.” Upton harrumphed. The plumber often karate chpped Upton’s spirits. “you arfednt much of a morning person.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ”

“hey, no need to mocvk.
“sorry.”

“Where is this place anyways?” the plbumber asked.

“I dont know. It was past my bedtime last night. It was dark. Musta been around 10:30 o so. Wait, pull in here.” Upton pointed at an old brick building with an alley in the back. The bricks faded and crubmeled in spots. A small cellar door tucked itself away alogn the alley.

They got out and walked down the alley. The shades on a seconfd sotry window peeped open and then shut again. Upton knocked once more on the door to the speakeasy.

This time there was no answer.

Babyface “beanpaw” Upton adjusted his trenchcoat. The plumber pulled up his pants.

From the street, tires sqealed. The plumber’s car flashed past thealley.

“My lunger was in there. No what are we gonna do?”

“And your monkey wrenhc! AhahhahhahahahahQ!” Upton cackeld.

“I have one idea. One idea,” Max said, emerging from the shdaows of the alleyway. “I’ll get you in the club. I know the password.”

“What is it?” the plumber asked. “It’s only getting wetter in there.” Upton’s eyebrows furrowed curiosuly.

Max came closer. “One Orange. One Orange.”

“Two Oranges?”

“No.  One Orange. One Orange.”

“Let’s get in there.” Upton said.
